North Coast

This is the where you’ll find many restaurants, clubs for music and dancing and shopping.  A variety of hotels and nice beaches can be found.   Mauritius' tourism hub is focused on the Northside around Grand Baie, which has the greatest concentration and variety of hotels, beaches, entertainment and shopping.

This was the first boutique hotel on the island, built on a little coconut grove on the north-west coast of Mauritius. This hotel is best suited to honeymooners and couples looking for a child-free break (no kids under 12 years accepted here). Ideal for those who value a discreet, stylish ambience rather than a resort atmosphere. There is a free shuttle a few times each day to Grand Baie, which is not far away.

West Coast

The West side of Mauritius has flat golden sand beaches, shallow water and the best sunsets. Le Morne beach on the south-west tip of the island is a peninsula in the shadow of the dramatic rock of Le Morne Brabant Mountain which once sheltered runaway slaves, has the most dramatic backdrop on the island. It's also a hotspot for kite surfers.

When to go to Mauritius

Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate although the southeast trade winds help mitigate the humidity.  The best time to visit is the dry season from May to early December when temperatures are a little cooler.  Avoid January and February which are peak cyclone months and not good for diving.  July and August can get windy especially on the east coast.

Passport & Visa for Mauritius

Your passport must be valid from the period of the intended stay until arrival back in your country of residence. Tourist visas are granted upon arrival and are valid for 60 days.

Medical Information for Mauritius

Before traveling to the Mauritius, please consult with your physician. No mandatory vaccinations are required to visit Mauritius unless you have traveled through countries where yellow fever is present within six days preceding your arrival.  You do not need a malaria prophylaxis.
